Manners = Pringles?
Manners can get you a long way.
On the plane ride to Seattle, I got to sit next to a boy and his dad. They were traveling with their family of six to go explore Montana for spring break. The past couple flights home, I’ve been sitting next to some cursing men who only care about making money and having a good time. But this kid was so different!
He carries himself with maturity and confidence. As an eleven year old boy, he’s super impressive!
When the flight attendants came down the aisle, he continued to impress. The first flight attendant sold snacks, and the boy used a simple “please” and “thank you” with a smiling face and kind heart. The man was very impressed and told him to keep up the wonderful manners. Minutes later, a lady flight attendant asked what we would like to drink. He asked for a Sprite using just the same words and manners. She was blown away. Again, she told him to keep up the awesome manners. And she slipped him and his dad a canister of Pringles. How cool! While sharing the Pringles with his son, the Dad nudged him and said, “This is what you get for good manners.”
This family is so awesome! And you could see how proud this Dad was of his son. Recognition for raising your son right has to feel amazing.
At first, I was a little confused that the flight attendants were so blown away by this boy’s manners. These people meet so many different people in their profession, and them being surprised at his manners is a bit alarming. That means the norm is lacking manners. Thinking back, this past week I was told by a professor who started 18 companies that in the business world, you better get used to swearing because that’s all the workplace has, especially in large corporations.
I don’t know about you, but that shocks me and hurts me. I would so much rather work and live in an environment where people love on each other and use wonderful manners backed with meaning.
Manners and kind hearts are so refreshing, and people love being treated nicely! Let’s never forget to use our manners, and in this upcoming generation, manners and your kindness could be an attribute that sets you apart.
How far do you think a please and thank you could get you? It got this boy Pringles, and I’m sure he’ll go so far in life with his attitude as well! Let’s be sure to love well and treat others kindly.
Thanks for reading! Love you guys!
With love,
Lauren
